Message from Dharavi

Today we received an e-mail from Nawneet Ranjan in Dharavi, Mumbai thanking us for our financial contribution to the Slum Innovation project. This is what he wrote:

Thank you so much for your contribution to support the tech Girls for Change from Dharavi. I want you to know that your contribution has an incredible impact on the girls, their lives and the community of Dharavi, Nayanagar, Mahim, Mumbai.

We got Lumkani networked fire sensor to make the community safer, laptops, clothes, books, food items, a little bigger space rental to learn etc. for the girls and their families.

Girls are learning each day to get better in their studies and make their community safer, vibrant and peaceful.

Visit to Brussels

On Friday the boys had a chat with a few classes from the Klein Seminarie. They talked freely about topics that relate to their lives as youngsters in India and Belgium.
On the last day of their trip the group visited Brussels. They had a very good dinner at the Feu de Bengale Indian restaurant in Brussels. On Tuesday morning they took off for Ranchi from Brussels airport!

St. Xavier’s Dance evening

On Friday evening the dance group of St. Xavier’s Doranda in Ranchi presented 6 dances on stage in the Klein Seminarie in Roeselare! A memory to treasure! (video: Geert Coghe)

Mass in Harelbeke

The boys of St. Xavier’s danced in two masses in Harelbeke.

Paris

On Wednesday we took the group to Paris for a very quick visit of some highlights!

Fr. Constant Lievens – Moorslede

On Tuesday the St.Xavier’s group walked in the footsteps of Fr Constant Lievens, who worked as a missionary in Ranchi. The group visited the Lievens’ Museum in Moorslede, the church and two primary schools. They also climbed the Basicila of Dadizele, before finishing off in Moorslede with a ceremony to Fr. Constant Lievens on the marked square.

World War I – Zonnebeke & Ypres

On Monday Peter Bentein, Johan Eeckhout and Gust Boudry took our Indian friends to the battlefields of the First World War. They visited Tyne Cot and the museum in Zonnebeke. After a short walk through Ypres they were invited to a secondary school (Het College) in Ypres to have a discussion with Flemish pupils. In the evening the group took part in the Last Post ceremony! Visit to Pairi Daiza with St. Xavier’s

On Sunday Geert Coghe and Bart Vercruysse took the Indian group to Pairi Daiza. Check out the pictures below!

St. Xavier’s Doranda, Ranchi

Van 9 tot 20 september logeren 12 leerlingen van St. Xavier’s Doranda, Ranchi in het Klein Seminarie in Roeselare. Op dinsdag wandelen zij in de voetstappen van Constant Lievens. Zaterdag trok de groep naar Brugge en de kust.

 

Onze inleefreis in een paar foto’s

Een hartelijk dank je wel aan alle inleefreizigers voor de fijne inleefreis die we achter de rug hebben in India en de Lievensmissie. We kunnen terugkijken op een rijke variatie van warme ontmoetingen, nieuwe ervaringen en nooit meer te vergeten indrukken van een land vol extremen. Het zal nog heel wat tijd vragen om alle indrukken te verwerken, maar een impact zal deze reis alleszins hebben. Thanks again!
